Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph.

A recent report in the Guardian suggested that Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez was interested in bringing Fabian Delph to St James’ Park this summer after the Magpies confirmed their place in next season’s Premier League, and if they could land the Manchester City man, it would arguably be a game-changing signing for the club.
Delph has endured a frustrating time since moving to the Etihad Stadium from Aston Villa, but his arrival would still be an excellent piece of business from Newcastle as he clearly has the talent to play for a team battling high up in the Premier League table.
At 27, the England international should now be entering the best years of his career, so Benitez being able to bring him in for those upcoming years would be a major statement of intent ahead of their return to the top flight, hinting that they are not looking to simply stay up but that they want to quickly re-establish themselves as stalwarts at the highest level.
And pairing Delph with Jonjo Shelvey in the middle of the park would surely boost their chances of doing just that with both players boasting international pedigree.

Signing Delph would also not only have an impact on the quality of the team, but it would surely also have an impact on the rest of their business this summer as potential targets could surely only be impressed if Newcastle landed a player with the former Leeds man’s talent.
And if Benitez could get the best out of Delph, it will surely not take long for Newcastle to prove to any doubters that they will soon be ready to take their place amongst some of the heavyweights in the Premier League.
