The Dutchman would be a sensational addition to the Newcastle United squad this summer.

Magpies boss Rafa Benitez is still in the market to add some genuine quality to his side before the start of the new Premier League campaign, which is now less than two weeks away.

The Spaniard has struggled to secure deals for some of his primary transfer targets this summer, but things have taken a turn for the better recently, with the confirmed signings of Jacob Murphy and Javi Manquillo joining Florian Lejeune at St James’ Park.

There is still room for a cultured attacking midfielder at Newcastle though, and who better than Wesley Sneijder, who is available on a free transfer following his release from Galatasaray.

The 33-year-old has been one of the most exciting players to watch over the past decade, and his arrival on Tyneside would be a huge statement of intent from Benitez.

The Dutchman is wonderfully gifted, and can play anywhere along the frontline. He possesses superb vision, and his eye for the killer pass would undoubtedly add a certain level of potency to the Magpies’ attacking play.

Sneijder is also a set-piece specialist, which would offer great variation to Matt Ritchie’s left-footed set plays.

The 131-capped Holland international has a wealth of experience in playing at the very highest level – something that would surely prove to be crucial to the Toon this term.

Whilst the former Inter Milan and Real Madrid man would undoubtedly demand a fairly substantial salary, his availability on a free transfer means that Newcastle should be able to meet his demands.

And if he does end up at St James’ Park this summer, what a signing he could turn out to be.
