Newcastle United have reportedly agreed a deal to sign the Brazilian from Chelsea.
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United have agreed a deal to sign Kenedy on loan from Chelsea next month, and despite the Brazilian’s versatility, the Magpies should look at him very much as a winger.
The prospect of playing the 21-year-old at left-back, where Newcastle have struggled for much of the campaign, makes a degree of sense.
However the return from injury of Paul Dummett and Massadio Haidara means Magpies boss Rafa Benitez has other options to replace the disappointing Javier Manquillo.
What Newcastle really need is more creative spark, with their lack of goals and some poor performances from their wingers meaning the likes of Dwight Gayle and Joselu have been starved of service.
The jury remains out on the latter, yet there is no doubt a player of Kenedy’s quality can become a creative catalyst in a way that Christian Atsu and – more recently – Matt Ritchie have failed to this season.
Kenedy is unlikely to be the only new addition to a Newcastle squad that needs plenty of fresh faces in a bid to pull clear of the drop zone. But it would be sensible to consider him as an attacking option, rather than negating his impact by playing him at left-back ahead of the returning Dummett.
