Newcastle United have been linked with the Liverpool defender.

Andrew Robertson of Liverpool during the Premier League match between AFC Bournemouth and Liverpool at Vitality Stadium on December 17, 2017 in Bournemouth, England.

Left-back has been a problem position for Newcastle United all season and it seems that manager Rafael Benitez will attempt to address the issue when the transfer window opens in January.

With Paul Dummett having missed the majority of the first half of the campaign through injury, Javier Manquillo, who is much more suited to playing on the right side of the defence, has frequently filled in at left-back but has struggled.

As reported by The Chronicle, Benitez will attempt to bring in left-back Andrew Robertson on loan from Liverpool.

Although Robertson has featured prominently for Liverpool of late, he was used sparingly earlier in the campaign and is only currently getting a run in the side due to the absence of the injured Alberto Moreno.

Robertson, who previously impressed in the Premier League for Hull City, would be an excellent temporary solution to Newcastle’s left-back problem and could play a major part in helping to keep the club up.

However, Liverpool shouldn’t contemplate letting Robertson leave, even on a temporary basis, as when at his best the Scotland international is superior to Moreno and deserves to be playing regularly for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
