Newcastle United were too quick to part company with Barcelona-linked Florian Thauvin.

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez speaks with Ayoze Perez as Aleksandar Mitrovic prepares to come on as a substitute

According to Bleacher Report, Paris Saint-Germain made a move for Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic in the January transfer window.

Newcastle, though, refused to listen to any offers as they did not want the striker to leave midway through the season, according to the report.

“The Magpies will eventually think about letting the 22-year-old move on, but only if they recoup the £13 million spent on him in 2015,” adds the report on Bleacher Report.

Mitrovic is not having a good season and is not guaranteed a place in the Newcastle starting lineup.

During the 2015-16 campaign, the Serbia international striker scored nine goals and created 30 chances in 34 Premier League appearances for the Magpies.

While it is clear that Mitrovic’s time at St. James’ Park has not been successful, one should remember that he is only 22 years of age.

It would be tempting for Newcastle to sell Mitrovic in the summer transfer window, but they should not make the mistake they made with Florian Thauvin.

Thauvin joined the Magpies from Marseille in the summer of 2015 for a transfer fee reported by The Shields Gazette to be worth £14 million, but he was loaned back to the French club in the summer of 2016.

According to The Shields Gazette, Marseille are obliged to sign the French winger permanently in the summer, but there is a chance that the 24-year-old could soon be on the move.

Mundo Deportivo reported last month that Barcelona are interested in signing Thauvin in the summer transfer window.

Barcelona are one of the biggest clubs on the planet and have some of the best players in the world.

Thauvin seems to have done enough to impress the Spanish giants, and this shows that Newcastle were too quick to lose faith in Thauvin. The Magpies should not repeat that mistake with Mitrovic.
