Newcastle would be wise to add a quality winger to their team and former Manchester City man Jesus Navas is without a club.

Sevilla have been negotiating personal terms with former Manchester City winger Jesus Navas in an attempt to bring him back to Spain, according to El Confidencial. However, a sticking point has arisen with the report saying a contract is yet to be agreed.

Navas is a free agent having left Manchester City, and this could enable Premier League sides to jump in and see if they can keep the wide man in England. Among the clubs that could offer Navas plenty of action is Newcastle United. Benitez has been pursuing other wingers, but he has become frustrated by delays, as the Chronicle Live points out.

The availability of Jesus Navas should catch Benitez’s attention. Navas has played 183 games for Manchester City and has 35 international caps for Spain. He would add tremendous Premier League and international experience to Newcastle United.

Navas would provide a strong attacking outlet, even if his crossing accuracy was not good enough to keep him in the side at Manchester City. He made 24 appearances for Guardiola’s team in 2016-17 and contributed 145 forward passes and 16 accurate crosses.

Pep Guardiola tried to offer a player who won the Premier League in 2014 a new contract in the summer but was unable to convince Navas to stay. The Spaniard found playing time limited at the Etihad last season but he would be a great addition for an attacking Newcastle side.

Navas’ work rate is particularly impressive, and could yet be put to use in the Premier League as the Magpies return to the top flight, though Benitez would have to convince Navas that he would get games at St James’ Park.

But given his quality, and Newcastle’s struggle to bring in personnel this summer, a short term deal would be a decent move.
