Newcastle United tried to bring Andros Townsend back in January and now could be a good time to try again, with Crystal Palace still managerless.
Crystal Palace are yet to appoint a new manager following Sam Allardyce’s shock retirement at the end of last season.
Mauricio Pellegrino and Frank de Boer are being considered for the role, according to Sky Sports, but uncertainty reigns at Selhurst Park with pre-season training quickly emerging on the horizon.
And Newcastle United should take advantage of the situation by returning, once again, for former winger Andros Townsend.
The 25-year-old enjoyed a superb six-month spell on Tyneside in 2016, excelling under Rafa Benitez and returning to the England squad – although he was unable to save Newcastle from relegation.
Townsend then departed for Palace, hoping to keep his international place, but that did not stop Benitez returning with a bid in January – according to The Guardian – as the former Tottenham man lay on the fringes of Allardyce’s squad.
Since then, Townsend has impressed in South London, but the club are taking their time to bring in a new boss and that could hamper Palace’s start to the season.
If Newcastle are still interested – and they should be, in a pacy, goalscoring winger – now would be the time to strike. Townsend could become a key figure once again.
