Newcastle United should rival Swansea City in the race for Manchester City’s Wilfried Bony.

According to BBC Sport, Swansea City are edging closer to signing Wilfried Bony from Manchester City – but Newcastle United should consider joining them in the race for the Ivorian forward.

Bony has struggled at City and looks set to leave the Etihad Stadium in the coming weeks.

At the moment Swansea looks his most likely destination, but Newcastle should offer Bony an alternative option.

Although the 28-year-old has not been in prolific form in recent times, he could still be an excellent option for the Magpies.

Bony’s power could open doors for the more speedy Dwight Gayle, and their potential partnership could be a major threat.

Bony, himself, has previously shown he can score goals in the Premier League – after netting 35 times in 70 matches during a spell with Swansea between 2013 and 2015.

And, with Newcastle on the look out for a new forward, they should consider hijacking Swansea’s move to see if Bony could be persuading to make a switch to Tyneside.
