The Italian would be an excellent signing for Newcastle United.
Magpies boss Rafa Benitez will be looking to bolster his attacking options at St James’ Park this summer, with his side desperately in need of more creativity and guile in the final third.
The Premier League will surely prove to be a massive step up in class for Newcastle, and the Spaniard’s summer transfer activity will have to reflect this.
With this in mind, Benitez should consider entering the race for Sassuolo forward Domenico Berardi, who is attracting attention from Serie A side Napoli, according to respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
Domenico Berardi in action
Rafa could tempt him into moving to Tyneside over Naples by offering something that his former club cannot, however – the opportunity of regular first-team football.
Berardi is exceptionally gifted, and at just 22-years-old, he has already displayed his remarkable talent in Serie A. He chipped in with 10 goals and nine assists in 25 outings for Sassuolo last term, whilst mostly operating from a wide right attacking position.
He would add a level of potency to the Magpies’ attack, and his ability to make intelligent runs in behind opposing defenders would provide Newcastle with a totally different facet to their play in the final third.
Whilst a move for the Italy under-21 international would be an ambitious one by the Toon, it would certainly not be outside the realms of possibility for them to tempt him into a move to St James’ Park.
The advantages of having a manager with Benitez’ reputation at the helm cannot be underestimated, and there are plenty of players plying their trades in the top European leagues who would love to play under the Spaniard.
On top of that, there is the added attraction of playing in front of 50,000 plus fans every other week – something that is not on offer even at the biggest clubs in Italy.
And if Rafa manages to bring Berardi to the north-east, it could turn out to be a signing that helps transcend Newcastle United as a football club.
