With the new Premier League season a little under seven weeks away, Newcastle United have to make a decision now regarding who will be in charge.

Rafa Benitez’s contract with Newcastle United will run out in six days and the Spaniard will leave the club after three years in charge. Losing Benitez is certainly a huge blow for the Magpies but a decision on who will replace him will be a big one.

The Magpies have already lost over three weeks of the transfer window in which a number of other teams have started strengthening their squads. A decision on Salomon Rondon is also undecided and Newcastle could suffer badly from all the delays.

A replacement is yet to be decided by the club and filling Benitez’s shoes will not be easy for anyone who comes in. However, Newcastle should be bold in their appointment and former Schalke boss Domenico Tedesco would be an incredible choice.

The German has been out of a job since facing the axe at Schalke after a humiliating 7-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City in the knockout stages of the Champions League. Tedesco had a terrible final season as the Royal Blues’ boss but that should have no bearing over how brilliant a manager he is.

Tedesco had a very impressive first season in charge of Schalke where he led them to a second place finish. Die Königsblauen lost just eight games in Tedesco’s first campaign which is quite an achievement considering how competitive the Bundesliga has been over the years.

Still only 33, Tedesco will bring in a ton of new ideas to St James’ Park next season and with the German’s proven record of giving a chance to young players, Newcastle’s future would certainly be in safe hands if he is appointed as Benitez’s heir this summer.
