Newcastle are reportedly looking at two Sunderland players, but they already have a promising young star in the same position.
Newcastle United are looking into the possibility of stealing Joel Asoro and Josh Maja from rivals Sunderland, according to the Daily Mail.
Sunderland look destined for League One, and their north-east neighbours could well strike to snatch away their two most promising young stars.
Asoro and Maja – both still teenagers – have scored goals in the Championship this season, showing their obvious potential even in a woeful second-tier side.
And so it’s no surprise that Rafa Benitez and just up the road Newscastle, would be considering a swoop, boosting their ranks and damaging their former rivals.
But don’t Newcastle not already have an exciting young striker who deserves game time?
Adam Armstrong has long been tipped for big things on Tyneside, but it has never quite happened for him at Newcastle as his wait for a first goal in black and white goes on.
Armstrong has enjoyed some successful loan spells, though, and is currently excelling with Blackburn Rovers – a side who could well be plying their trade in a division above Sunderland next season.
Armstrong has nine goals in League One this season, showing his versatility, too, as he – like Asoro – has been asked to play out wide. In fact Armstrong and Asoro are similar players and both have shown more promise than Maja.
Surely Newcastle should be looking to get the best out of players already on their books before turning to other young stars who may never surpass a player like Armstrong ?
