Celtic may be looking for January additions after an unconvincing start to the season – and they’re being linked with an interesting move.
The Bhoys sit 11 points adrift of Rangers in the race for the Scottish Premiership title, and boss Neil Lennon now finds himself under pressure.
Lennon may need some more firepower come January, and TEAMtalk report that the Bhoys are interested in landing Peterborough United’s Siriki Dembele.
Celtic are allegedly ‘pushing the hardest’ to sign Demele, who can sign a pre-contract agreement with the Bhoys in January given that he is out of contract next summer.
The Chronicle also note that Newcastle United are interested in signing Dembele, and the mounting interest in the 24-year-old is no great surprise.
Dembele has been superb this season, smashing five goals and four assists in 12 League One games, and his contract situation makes him very appealing.
Beating a Premier League side to Dembele won’t be easy, but Celtic do have a couple of trump cards in their ranks that could just help them win the race.
Firstly, Dembele’s brother Karamoko is in the ranks at Celtic, and is considered to be one of the club’s brightest prospects for the future.
Joining forces in Glasgow has to be appealing to the Peterborough ace, and a move to Parkhead would also see him join forces with Gavin Strachan again.
Celtic raided Peterborough to lure coach Strachan to Glasgow, adding him to Lennon’s staff following Damien Duff’s departure.
Strachan worked closely with Dembele at Peterborough, and if anybody knows how to get the best out of him, it’s the now-Celtic coach.
Karamoko and Strachan could now be key for Celtic in their pursuit, and Newcastle should maybe fear their presence in the race for the speedy Dembele.
