With the Magpies powering towards promotion, here are 5 players that should be the focal point of their squad next season.

Matt Ritchie

The former Bournemouth man has chipped in with goals and assists of equal measure in the league this season, and has the quality, experience and flair that is so highly valued at Premier League level. Ritchie would play a huge part in the Magpies’ Premier League campaign.

Dwight Gayle

The man signed from Crystal Palace last summer has had a phenomenal scoring record this season, nabbing 20 goals in 26 games. Another Premier League old head, Gayle managed 25 goals in his time at Palace, and his speed and eye for goal will be a must if Newcastle make it up.

Jonjo Shelvey

People have known for a long time what Jonjo Shelvey is all about, and he’s proved it again this season, gifting 8 assists along with 4 goals for United. With strength, passing ability and a goal threat from distance, it’s only his attitude that’s holding Shelvey back from pushing on even further, and even that has shown signs of improving.

Tim Krul

Though on loan at AZ Alkmaar for the season, Dutch international stopper Krul is expected to have a huge part to play for the Magpies should they be promoted this season. While Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot have done their job well, an experienced keeper will surely be of top priority to Benitez.

DeAndre Yedlin

The American full-back, once of Spurs and Sunderland, has been a solid performer for Newcastle this season, while also showing his ability in attack. Yedlin has managed 5 assists for the Magpies so far, and his lightning quick speed will be all too helpful in the Premier League.
