Jonjo Shelvey has been left out of the England squad despite impressing for Newcastle United lately.
Newcastle’s shirt sponsors FUN88 have joined the Magpies supporters in taking to Twitter to express their disbelief as Jonjo Shelvey continues to be overlooked by England manager Gareth Southgate ahead of their friendlies with Germany and Brazil.
Southgate has endured a turbulent time putting a squad together for the two friendlies during this international break, with Harry Winks, Jordan Henderson and Fabian Delph all withdrawing since the initial squad was announced.
With Shelvey impressing during the early weeks of the season, many would have expected the Magpies man to come into the side.
However, Southgate clearly has other ideas with Jake Livermore and Jack Cork being added to the squad. While Cork has impressed for the Clarets this term, Livermore has been out of form for much of the campaign for a West Brom side that has not won since August.
Shelvey has arguably done enough to be considered for a spot in the team. His passing ability in particular, surely makes him the kind of player who could have made an impact against some of the better sides in the world.
And unsurprisingly, the omission has left a number of Newcastle fans, and the club’s main shirt sponsor extremely perplexed on social media.
