The Magpies ace, on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, spoke ahead of Monday’s Championship derby against Sheffield United.
Rolando Aarons has not had the best of times at Newcastle United lately but is slowly finding his feet on loan at Championship club Sheffield Wednesday.
The 23-year-old found himself surplus to requirements for the Magpies this season as he linked up with Czech club FC Slovan Liberec in September, returned to St James’ Park in January and then joined the Owls later that month, without featuring for his parent club at all this term (Transfermarkt).
Aarons has so far made five appearances for Wednesday this term and has not yet suffered a defeat in the blue and white stripes, but a huge test is coming up next Monday as Hillsborough plays host to the Steel City derby against city rivals Sheffield United.
Looking ahead to the occasion, the loanee spoke about how he loves derbies but expressed his regret at not having been able to play for Newcastle against either Sunderland or Middlesbrough.
“I love derbies,” he told the Yorkshire Post. “Every time at Newcastle I was injured so I never got to play in the Tyneside derbies… I am expecting a hostile atmosphere from (Sheffield United), but expecting our fans to push us to win. I can’t wait. I am buzzing.”
Back-to-back victories over Swansea City and Brentford have nudged Steve Bruce’s charges to just six points adrift of the playoffs with 12 games remaining, and victory over the Blades would provide a huge boost ahead of the final straight.
