Newcastle United tried to lure Donny van de Beek to St. James’ Park this year but the player chose to join Everton – however, the Toon have the chance to put that right with Manchester United open to his permanent exit in January.

The 25-year-old has endured a woeful spell at United. Since joining the club in 2020, he has played just 53 times for United – only 19 of which have been starts. He has managed just 15 starts in the Premier League for the club.

It saw him go on loan to Everton in January, but even then, he struggled – managing just seven appearances. He needs a new start and a move to a mid-table Premier League club, with ambition, might just give him that platform.

The £40million Manchester United signing is now edging closer to an exit, on a permanent basis. 90Min claim that United are open to his sale, despite pre-season predictions that the arrival of Erik ten Hag may help his cause.

Newcastle have chance to lure van de Beek to St. James’ Park

Newcastle need a midfielder. Without Jonjo Shelvey, they have been using Sean Longstaff in the middle of the park, with Bruno Guimaraes sitting deeper. But Longstaff is hardly the future if Newcastle want to push for Europe.

They need a top-quality midfielder that can operate with Bruno and Joelinton. Switching between box-to-box, an attacking midfielder or even sitting deeper. Netherlands international van de Beek is capable of all three positions.

The Telegraph reported that van de Beek actually rejected the chance to go on loan to Newcastle. He felt their position in the table was too low, opting for Everton. But Newcastle ended up finishing well above Frank Lampard’s side.

Now, Newcastle could do with a midfielder like him and van de Beek would surely jump at the chance to join Eddie Howe’s side. If Newcastle still want him, they have got to go in for a second time – he could be signed on the cheap.
