Newcastle United reportedly watched Garry Rodrigues in action on Saturday.

According to Sporx in Turkey, Newcastle United sent scouts to watch Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues in action against bitter rivals Fenerbahce on Saturday evening.

The Magpies haven’t yet secured their Premier League status for next season, but they appear to be turning one eye towards the summer transfer window, and finding more talent for manager Rafael Benitez.

Whilst Kenedy has impressed since his January loan move from Chelsea, but it’s unclear whether Newcastle can pull off a permanent deal, and looking at alternative wingers to target may be a priority.

Sporx now claim that Newcastle sent scouts to Turkey on Saturday, and they watched Galatasaray star Garry Rodrigues in action against Fenerbahce, with a view to attempting a summer move.

Rodrigues has been linked with Newcastle in the last two transfer windows, and he has certainly impressed for Galatasaray this season having hit seven goals and eight assists for the Turkish giants.

The Cape Verde international, 27, has been a sensation for Galatasaray, but he was a little more reserved in the 0-0 draw against Fenerbahce, as he couldn’t help his side unlock their opponents.

Rodrigues managed two shots on target and three successful dribbles, but he couldn’t create any chances for Galatasaray, whilst he only managed 12 passes in 90 minutes; the fewest of any Galatasaray player.

Newcastle may not have been overly impressed with Rodrigues’ performance, but having been a long-term target for Benitez, he is surely a player that the Magpies will continue to track between now and the summer transfer window.
