The Stoke City player is seemingly on the move this summer and Newcastle United could be the perfect destination.
As reported by Get French Football News back in 2013, Newcastle United were keeping a very close eye on Guingamp player Giannelli Imbula, with their chief scout Graham Carr allegedly watching the midfielder more than once.
When Imbula did finally move it was to FC Porto, before Stoke City bid big to bring him to the Britannia Stadium in February 2016, and yet according to the Telegraph the Potters are already looking to ship him out.
So what chance that Newcastle finally get their man?
At first glance it would be easy to dismiss Imbula as a flop, but the truth is he still has plenty to offer the right club and he has not lost the innate talent that earned him so much praise when he was barely out of his teens.
There is also the chance that he would be hopeful of remaining in the Premier League to prove his doubters wrong, and with Newcastle on course for an immediate return to the top flight he would be the perfect addition.
Newcastle fans continue to be divided on Jack Colback, and while the Magpies midfielder has played more often than not alongside Jonjo Shelvey this season, he is not the answer if Rafa Benitez’s side want to return to the upper echelons of English football.
At 24, and potentially available for a cut-price fee this summer, Imbula could be, and Newcastle may be wise to follow up their interest earlier in his career with a concrete bid this summer.
