Newcastle are reportedly in talks to sign Real Madrid superstar Eden Hazard this summer. A player, that Jack Wilshere said earlier in the season, would love to play under Eddie Howe if Newcastle came calling.

Hazard, 31, is expected to be on the transfer list at Madrid this summer. Since his £130million move from Chelsea to Madrid, Hazard has only managed 65 games for the La Liga side – in which he has scored six goals.

He has failed to live up to his transfer fee or his wages and Madrid are keen to offload him – even with Gareth Bale leaving in the summer, on a free. Defensa Central say Newcastle have opened talks with Madrid for Hazard.

They are the first club to have opened talks for Hazard ahead of the summer, with Chelsea also keen. Speaking about a move to Newcastle for Hazard in October, Wilshere said he would love to play under Howe.

“Eden Hazard is another level, but I think Eden would love playing for a manager like Eddie Howe,” Wilshere told TalkSPORT in October, as per the Express. “He’s the type of manager you want to play for.”

Wilshere on Hazard: Could Newcastle really sign Madrid star?

Without a doubt. They have the financial power and for a player in Hazard’s position, there are only going to be a handful of clubs willing to sign the winger. They can afford his £188,000-a-week wages (TalkSPORT).

So, they can afford him. From Hazard’s point of view, he may feel he is young enough to still have an impact in the Premier League – look at Kieran Trippier. But the lack of European football may dissuade him.
