Newcastle United are one of four clubs reportedly keeping an eye on Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford. A player, that held phone calls with Alan Shearer in January to discuss his struggling form.

Rashford, 24, has been incredible for Manchester United since making his debut for the club six years ago – a 5-1 win over FC Midtjylland. He is just seven goals short of reaching 100, and five games behind a huge 300.

Not only that, but the £200,000-a-week (Spotrac) attacker already has 46 caps to his name at England level – and his work off the pitch has made him a national hero. But on the pitch right now, he is struggling for game time.

Indeed, he has started just two of Manchester United’s last 11 games. 90Min say Newcastle, West Ham, Arsenal and Atletico Madrid are keen – and it comes after Shearer held phone calls with Rashford in January.

The Sun reported: “Shearer offered him [Rashford] tips on handling the pressure and expectation that is on his shoulders at the moment and convinced him that he can come through this period in his career.”

Newcastle eye Rashford: Manchester United ace would be a stellar signing

Newcastle have the options up front in Chris Wood and Callum Wilson – and perhaps another addition come the summer. On the left, they have one of the best in the league, in Allan Saint-Maximin.

Currently, Ryan Fraser is shining under Eddie Howe on the right – scoring goals and creating more, but also putting in the work rate. But bringing in Rashford would be an incredible replacement for Fraser.

Rashford, Wilson and Saint-Maximin would be one of the best attacking threesomes in the Premier League, certainly one worthy of battling for the top six.
