Newcastle are reportedly looking to raid Watford for winger Ismaila Sarr this summer, for a fee of £35million. A player that Alan Shearer heaped praise on this season, claiming he is “wreaked havoc” on Norwich’s defence.

Sarr, 24, is now in his third season at Watford – joining the Hornets for a club-record £30million from Rennes in the summer of 2019. In his first season, he was relegated – despite five goals and six assists in 28 games.

He got Watford promoted at the first attempt, producing 23 goal involvements in 39 Championship games. This season has been a struggle, managing to play just 16 Premier League matches – but still scoring five.

The Sun claim Newcastle are interested in a £35million deal for Sarr, even if Watford remain in the Premier League. Liverpool have also sent scouts too, ahead of a potential move for Sadio Mane’s Senegal teammate.

In September of this season, Shearer included Sarr in his TOTW after a 3-1 win at Carrow Road in which Sarr scored twice: “The Senegalese winger wreaked havoc with his pace. Norwich City couldn’t cope with him.”

Looking at the current side, there are still a number of positions that require strengthening to turn the Toon into a mid-table side. A new goalkeeper, another centre-back, a partner for Bruno Guimaraes.

But also another, top-class striker and importantly, a right winger. Ryan Fraser has been excellent but he is hardly the long-term answer to partner Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin. Sarr solves that issue.
