West Ham United have been linked with Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez.

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is seen during the Premier League match between Newcastle United and Chelsea at St. James Park on May 13, 2018 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

Newcastle United are confident that Rafael Benitez will not leave amid interest from West Ham United, according to The Times.

According to the report, West Ham are interested in appointing Newcastle boss Benitez as their manager following the departure of David Moyes.

“Benitez has been a long-standing target for West Ham but Newcastle United say that they are confident that he will stay,” states the report in The Times.

Joy for Newcastle United fans

The report in The Times will certainly please and reassure the Newcastle fans, who must be worried – even if slightly – about losing Benitez to Premier League rivals West Ham this summer.

The former Liverpool and Chelsea manager has done a remarkable job at Newcastle, and for the Magpies to progress as a club and as a team on the pitch, they need the Spaniard at the helm.

Both West Ham and Newcastle struggled for survival in the Premier League for much of this season, and leaving the Magpies for the Hammers would not necessarily be career-enhancing for Benitez.

It would be best for Newcastle if they allow the Spaniard to make the signings that he wants in the summer transfer window so that the Magpies can challenge for the Premier League top 10 next season.
