Wolves were reportedly interested in El-Mhanni back in January.
Newcastle United have reported on their official website that attacker Yasin Ben El-Mhanni has been released by the club, as one of 18 players who leave The Toon this summer.
The 22-year-old joins the likes of Massadio Haidara, Curtis Good and Jesus Gamez in leaving Rafa Benitez’s side, along with a whole host of youngsters as announced in the club’s retained list.
With El-Mhanni now a free agent, Wolverhampton Wanderers could land the London-born attacker after first being linked with the star back in the January transfer window.
Goal.com claimed El-Mhanni was a target of Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, but the newly-promoted Premier league outfit faced competition from Brighton and Turkish giants Fenerbahce.
El-Mhanni is naturally a winger but can also play up front and in the number 10 role, and though he failed to make a single appearance for Newcastle’s first team during 2017-18, he was a regular fixture in the club’s second string.
It remains to be seen if Wolves will reignite their interest in the 22-year-old, but they will certainly find a move easier to complete with El-Mhanni now on the lookout for a new home.
