Newcastle United are reportedly set to loan out Jay Turner-Cooke in the January transfer window, with Eddie Howe believed to be a big fan of the 18-year-old prospect.

According to the Daily Mail, the Magpies are ready to loan out a number of their best young players as Newcastle look to streamline their squad over the January window, with Turner-Cooke being described by Howe as a ‘real talent’ over the mid-season break.

A creative attacking midfielder with the ability to play out on the right, Turner-Cooke joined Newcastle from Sunderland last year and has since been a regular for the Toon at U-21 level, with the teenager making eight Premier League 2 appearances this season.

And now, Newcastle are ready to loan out Turner-Cooke for the second-half of the season, with Howe keen to get the youngster out and playing professional football with first-team opportunities set to be unlikely for the 18-year-old talent.

As per the report, Newcastle’s prospects of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League and winning silverware via the League Cup or FA Cup means that there will be very few matches where Howe will be given the luxury of playing youth talents, meaning Turner-Cooke is better off going out on loan.

Indeed, the general idea is a sound one from Howe and his transfer team. However, given how young Turner-Cooke is, the midfielder remaining at Newcastle until the end of the season and training with the senior squad could be more beneficial to the teenager’s development.

Turner-Cooke’s development at Newcastle has been impressive since leaving rivals Sunderland last year for St. James Park, yet the midfielder himself might be better suited to remaining in the northeast than heading out on loan for a few months.

After all, Turner-Cooke is very much at the start of his career and is yet to play professional football at a senior level, and training with the Newcastle first-team might be a better education than going out on loan to an EFL side where the youngster might spend most of the time sitting on the bench.
