Newcastle United are reportedly ready to make an offer for River Plate superstar Julian Alvarez, with many clubs around Europe interested in the Argentine.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Toon are preparing ‘a mega offer’ for the 21-year-old forward. Alvarez is on the radar of many teams this January on the back of an outstanding season for River Plate.
The winger scored 22 goals in all competitions as the Buenos Aires-based giants won the Argentine Primera Division for the first time since 2014.
Moreover, Alvarez last month became the youngest winner of the prestigious South American Player of the Year award in the 21st Century, beating a record held for ten years by PSG star Neymar.
Indeed, Alvarez is one of the most exciting young talents in world football and a hotly-chased player coming from South America, with the likes of Inter Milan, AC Milan and Manchester United all keen to sign the attacker.
And as according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Newcastle are also chasing Alvarez. However, as per the report, the 21-year-old is not sold on a move to Tyneside, with the attacker eager to sign for a ‘top club’ in Europe.
Newcastle have a one-in-a-million shot of signing Alvarez

After a breakout season for one of South America’s biggest clubs, it’s no wonder that every major team in Europe is now biting at Alvarez’s heels, yet for Newcastle, the youngster is likely a step too far for Eddie Howe’s side.
Whilst it is positive to see the northeast club target young and exciting players, Alvarez is perhaps too unrealistic a target for Newcastle at this stage, especially given their place in the Premier League table.
