Newcastle potential XI after host of new arrivals

After years of frustrating transfer business, Newcastle have landed an impressive array of recruits in recent days.

Former Bournemouth duo Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson should add dynamism to an attack which toiled last time around.

Jamal Lewis’s arrival should offer a long-term solution to a problem position, and Jeff Hendrick on a free is a canny piece of business.

But who will miss out to make way for the host of new faces?

Lewis should slot in ahead of makeshift left back option Matt Ritchie, and the new-boys look to land themselves to a switch to a four-man backline.

We’ve put together a potential 4-2-3-1 system, with Lewis joined in defence by skipper Jamaal Lascelles, Federico Fernandez and Javier Manquillo.

Martin Dubravka is between the sticks for our potential eleven, but he has an ankle injury which will keep him out for the opening part of the season.

It’s important for Steve Bruce to get the balance right in midfield.

We’ve got Jonjo Shelvey and Hendrick in a midfield duo, but Bruce might elect for Isaac Hayden or a Longstaff brother in there for greater balance.

Fraser and Allan Saint-Maximin offer the prospect of a rapid, dangerous attacking approach based on wing back, with both men capable of playing on either side.

Miguel Almiron can take up the number 10 position, behind Wilson as the sole striker.

Wilson’s arrival means £80,000-a-week (National) forward Joelinton shouldn’t be under as much pressure this time around, and can largely return to his actual position on the wing more often than not.

But when everyone is fit, we’ve got him outside Bruce’s first-choice eleven, which looks exciting for Magpies fans ahead of the new campaign’s big kick off.
