The partner of Newcastle United goalkeeper Loris Karius is hoping to see the former Liverpool man leave the Premier League for Italy’s Serie A at some point in the near future.
Conceding seven goals in just two games since Nick Pope was consigned to the sidelines, Martin Dubravka is not finding it particularly easy replacing arguably the finest shot-stopper in England’s top flight. So can Loris Karius expect an opportunity to come his way over the next few months, should Dubravka’s struggles continue?
Maybe. Just maybe.
Karius is back on the Newcastle United bench these days, Eddie Howe’s ‘number three’ promoted to ‘number two’ due to Pope’s absence.

The 30-year-old German has made just one appearance for The Magpies since joining 15 months ago, however, that coming in the Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester United no less. A game Pope missed through suspension, and which Dubravka was unavailable for after spending the first half of that season on loan at the Red Devils.
Loris Karius stuck on the Newcastle United bench
Karius’ current deal expires in the summer of 2024. And his Italian-based partner is hoping that a Serie A club makes a move for the one-time Anfield glovesman at some point in the New Year as they grapple with the difficulties of a long-term relationship.
“He takes a lot of planes. As soon as he has a day (off), he leaves and comes even for just 24 hours,” Diletta Leotta, a presenter for DAZN sports, tells Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I hope (he can join an Italian club). He has another year on his contract and is fine at Newcastle, but whoever does this job always has his suitcase packed.
“I would understand any move, but I hope he can get closer (to me in Italy).”
Magpies linked with De Gea and Ramsdale
Dubravka is likely to keep his place between the sticks for the time being. And while Howe may have played down rumours linking Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale and free-agent former Manchester United keeper David de Gea with a move to St James’ Park, his stance could change in the face of more heavy defeats.
