Rolando Aarons’ career appears to have stalled somewhat, with the winger leaving Newcastle United on loan.

In comments reported by the Chronicle, Rolando Aarons has suggested that he is still optimistic that he can become a top player after leaving Newcastle on loan during the January transfer window.

It has been a frustrating couple of years for Aarons. Injury has plagued much of that period, while he has more recently struggled to break into Rafa Benitez’s plans, having only made four Premier League appearances this term with one start coming in that time.

Despite his lack of game-time, he surprised many during the January window as he left for a loan spell with Hellas Verona. And while the loan exit may leave some Magpies fans wondering whether the 22-year-old will ever realise his full potential, Aarons is adamant that he should not be written off just yet.

“I still believe I can become a top player,” he said, as reported by the Chronicle.

“But obviously I have had obstacles with injuries and the rest, not playing as many games as I can. It has stopped my progress but I feel like this is a perfect platform to re-establish my career, as well as helping Verona as well.”

While Aarons is still optimistic about his future, he has certainly not got off to the best start in Serie A. He has started both of the games that he has been available for, but has struggled to make an impact.

He is yet to see a game out and both of Verona’s fixtures have ended in defeat to leave them second-bottom in the Italian top flight, five points off safety heading into the final 14 games of the campaign.

But there is more than enough time for Verona to turn their season around, just like there is more than enough time for Aarons to get his career back on track before he returns to St James’ Park.
