Newcastle United have now made their first move to beat Tottenham Hotspur to the transfer of VfB Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy over the upcoming January window.

That is according to TEAMtalk, which claims that Newcastle have begun talks with the agent of Guirassy and with Stuttgart. The Magpies are the first team to launch any negotiations for the 27-year-old’s signature. But the Toon are far from alone in the pursuit of the Guinea star.

Newcastle have moved to edge the field as Eddie Howe is determined to land attacking and midfield reinforcements in January. St James’ Park chiefs have also identified Guirassy to be a key target having scored 15 goals from just nine Bundesliga appearances so far this term.

Newcastle make their first move for Guirassy’s transfer from Stuttgart

Guirassy has a wealth of suitors, though, as Stuttgart only included a £15m release clause in his contract. TEAMtalk notes that Die Roten agreed to insert the clause in his deal running to June 2026 when sealing his £7.5m transfer from Stade Rennais this July after a term on loan.

Now, the clause and his incredible form are heightening expectations that Guirassy will leave the MHPArena over January. Those close to the player expect he will receive offer after offer once the first bids arrive. So, Newcastle have moved early to start targeting Guirassy’s move.

Newcastle have all but confirmed to Stuttgart that they are prepared to pay the £15m clause for Guirassy’s transfer. Toon chiefs have also informed the eight-cap international’s agents of their willingness to sign him for £15m. It is likely that Newcastle believe he will agree to join.

Tottenham are among Guirassy’s several Premier League suitors

But Newcastle are not alone in pursuing a transfer from Stuttgart for Guirassy. TEAMtalk also reported in October that Tottenham are monitoring his form. Spurs deem the Arles, France-born striker to be a potential replacement for Harry Kane as the hunt for his heir continues.

Additionally, Fulham and West Ham United have shown an interest in the attacker, whom his coach Sebastian Hoeness hails for ‘putting everything away’. His suitors have also received a boost recently as Guirassy has admitted his admiration for the Premier League as a division.

“Everyone knows the Premier League is one of the most competitive leagues in the world,” Guirassy told The Guardian. “At this time, I don’t close any doors. There are some very big teams in Europe and it’s not focused only on the Premier League.”
