Newcastle United are in a difficult position with the Shields Gazette reporting they are targeting three Chelsea players on loan but with them only allowed to sign one.

Kenedy, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Kasey Palmer are all allegedly on the Magpies’ radar, with manager Rafa Benitez still having a good relationship with those in charge at Stamford Bridge from his time spent as Blues caretaker in 2012/13.

Premier League rules stipulate that teams in the division can only loan a maximum of one player from another side in the top flight of English football, so which of the trio should Benitez go for?

Kenedy

Having spent the latter half of last season on loan at St James’ Park and impressing, it is already known the Brazilian can add a great deal to the team.

The ideal scenario would be to sign the 22-year-old on a permanent basis, but with a £20m valuation currently he may be beyond Newcastle’s reach.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

The midfielder caught many eyes with his performances for Crystal Palace while in a temporary deal in 2017/18 and that was enough to earn Loftus-Cheek a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the current 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Signing the 22-year-old would be a great boost considering the form the Englishman is in, but with the Mirror claiming Palace and West Ham United also keen it could prove a difficult task.

Kasey Palmer

This is probably the biggest gamble of the three, with Palmer having spent the first half of last term on loan at Huddersfield Town but failing to make an impact before being switched to Derby County in January.

Clearly the 21-year-old is a great influence at Championship level, but may need some more time to develop to perform consistently in the top flight.

Conclusion

Perhaps the perfect outcome would be negotiating a permanent deal for Kenedy and then landing Loftus-Cheek on a season-long loan.
