Jetro Willems has been backed to join Newcastle United by Eintracht Frankfurt expert Christopher Michel in the Chronicle.
Willems spent last season on loan at Newcastle and impressed, before injury terminated his spell early.
Willems has since been fighting to make his way back to full fitness for Frankfurt.
Newcastle opted against signing him for £10 million in the summer (BILD), as he was still recovering from injury.
But Michel insists that Newcastle are still likely to make a bid for the full-back in the near future.
“If Willems finds a new club it is going to be Newcastle or his old club PSV Eindhoven,” he said.
“He often posts photos of him in Eindhoven so I think his next club will be Newcastle if they still want him.
“I think Willems prefers a move to Newcastle but, if not, I think Eindhoven is the next realistic station for him.”
Willems actually could be a free agent next summer, so he could become a very appealing addition for Newcastle to make.
The problem for the Dutchman is that his place in the Magpies’ team would be a lot less certain than the last time he was at St. James’ Park.
Newcastle brought in Jamal Lewis to play at left-back over the summer and he has made an extremely bright start to life on Tyneside.
