Newcastle now want to bring Dominik Szoboszlai to the Premier League after sending scouts to watch him in action.
The Magpies are said to be keeping a close eye on the Hungary international as Eddie Howe prepares to strengthen his squad this summer.
Newcastle are also believed to be scouting Amadou Haidara as well.
What’s the story?
Well – according to Philipp Hinze of Sky Sports – Newcastle are actually more interested in signing Szoboszlai than Haidara, although the RB Leipzig duo are both being watched.
Hinze claims that Newcastle have sent representatives to watch the pair play for RB Leipzig, both home and away, this season on several occasions.
Szoboszlai has impressed with seven goals and 13 assists in 41 appearances this season.
In regards to Haidara, the Mali international has not been involved in as many goals given his role at the base of midfield, although he has been a standout in that area as he keeps things secure in the middle of the park.
Despite Newcastle holding an interest in both Haidara and Szoboszlai, we shall focus on the latter – given the fact Hinze has stated the Howe is more keen to sign the Hungarian.
Szoboszlai would give Newcastle a new dimension
In our view, the RB Leipzig No.17 has the ability to become one of the best in Europe one day.
Szoboszlai has already been named captain of Hungary at the age of just 22 – which is some achievement – while he can also operate effectively in a number of positions, something Howe will surely love.
The Newcastle target – who RB Leipzig paid £18m for – has played as both a left winger and a right winger this season, as well as in the centre of the attack.
Szoboszlai’s aforementioned return of seven goals and 13 assists is very impressive, and from a technical aspect, there are few better ball strikers around – opponents will be full of nerves to see him and Kieran Trippier standing over a freekick.
