Reports from Italy have stated that Newcastle United remain keen on a South American winger this summer with talks on Monday set to be key for the deal.

Newcastle United have been relatively quiet in the summer transfer window with the month of June focused on outgoings as Yankuba Minteh joined Brighton & Hove Albion.

As for incomings, HITC understands that Newcastle have a broad agreement with Malick Thiaw about a potential move to St James’ Park from AC Milan.

A new winger is also understood to be one of the club’s priorities this summer with Pedro Neto one of the names attracting interest from Newcastle this summer.

Newcastle United ‘interested’ in Nico Gonzalez

According to a report from Italian outlet Calciomercato, Eddie Howe’s Newcastle are keen on signing Fiorentina winger Nico Gonzalez.

Last season the 26-year-old winger played 44 matches for La Viola, scoring 15 goals and adding five assists. He can play on either wing and is left-footed.

The report from the Italian outlet has named Newcastle as one of the sides keen on the Argentine winger, who nearly moved to Brentford last summer before a deal eventually collapsed.

Gonzalez is set to have a meeting with Fiorentina on Monday when he’s expected to tell them he’d like to move elsewhere.

Fiorentina are reportedly understood to be aware that they may struggle to get the £35 million fee they wanted for the winger last summer so a fee of £25-£30 million may be enough for Gonzalez.

Juventus among sides keen on Gonzalez this summer

Sources have told HITC that Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Atalanta have asked about the Fiorentina winger.

There’s reportedly longstanding transfer bad blood between La Viola and Juve, so they’d rather sell to Newcastle if they get that choice.

Fiorentina are expecting him to leave and one player that they want to help replace the Argentine winger is Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson – the former Everton target.

Former Liverpool, Everton and Scotland midfielder turned Serie A fanatic Don Hutchison told TNT Sport that City should go for Gonzalez when Bernardo Silva leaves the Etihad Stadium.

“If Bernardo Silva was ever to knock on Pep Guardiola’s door and think ‘it is time for me to move on’, I think he should be seriously looking at Gonzalez,” Hutchinson said.
