Newcastle United are leading the race for Borussia Monchengladbach defensive midfielder Denis Zakaria, according to Siamo La Roma
Newcastle interest in Zakaria
The report in the Italian news outlet has claimed that Newcastle are in pole position for the Switzerland international.
The Premier League club have already surveyed the situation of Zakaria.
Competition for Newcastle
Now, while the Magpies, now owned by PIF, are leading the race, Eddie Howe’s side are facing some stiff competition.
Siamo La Roma have reported that Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma, Inter Milan and Juventus all are keen on the 24-year-old.
There is interest from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool as well.
According to La Gazetta dello Sport (print edition, page 20, November 14, 2021), the former Premier League champions are keen on the former Young Boys.

Denis Zakaria would make Newcastle better
Zakaria is out of contract at Monchengladbach in the summer of 2022.
This means that Newcastle could get the defensive midfielder for a cut-price fee in the January transfer window.
Now, we know that Newcastle have the richest owners in club football.
They can certainly afford the transfer fee and the salary of the Monchengladbach star.
Although Zakaria is a defensive midfielder, he is also able to drive the team forward.

The Monchengladbach no. 8 has scored two goals and provided one assists in the Bundesliga so far this season.
Former BSC Young Boys coach Uli Forte told Mondo Napoli in July 2021: “He is an incredible box-to-box [player]. He has exceptional technique and grinds kilometres.
“All his characteristics were appreciated from a very young age, and he made his debut at the age of 18. He has offers from England, he has the right characteristics for the Premier.
“He will become a devastating player. Zakaria is a champion and has characteristics more or less similar to [Napoli midfielder Diego] Demme. Quantity, but a lot of quality.”
