Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are growing in confidence that they will be able to sign James Maddison ahead of Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur and Graham Potter’s Chelsea, according to GiveMeSport.

Newcastle confident of signing Tottenham target James Maddison

The report has claimed that Leicester City attacking midfielder Maddison will leave in 2023, and that Premier League rivals Newcastle ‘are growing in confidence’ that the England international will join them.

The 26-year-old playmaker is now the Magpies’ top target.

Newcastle’s reported stance on Maddison will be concerning to fellow Premier League clubs Tottenham and Chelsea.

The two London teams have also been linked with Maddison.

CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs told GiveMeSport this month that Chelsea and Tottenham are keen on Maddison, who is leaning towards staying at Leicester until the end of the season before making a decision on his future.

Bid now or wait until 2023 summer?

In our opinion, if Newcastle United are really determined to sign James Maddison, then they should make a bid now instead of waiting until next summer.

Newcastle are in the Premier League top four at the moment and are fighting for a UEFA Champions League place in the table this season.

You never know what could happen in the second half of the season.

Tottenham and Chelsea could do much better than the Magpies, who could drop down to a mid-table position.

Would Maddison then be keen on a move to St. James’ Park?
