Newcastle United have not been in talks to sell defender Jamaal Lascelles to Al-Shabab or any other Saudi Arabian club.

That is according to a report from 90min.

Newcastle are not trying to get rid of Jamaal Lascelles

As per 90min, Newcastle have not been in discussions to sell Jamaal Lascelles.

The 29-year-old was said to be a target for Al-Shabab, who can still sign players until the transfer window in Saudi Arabia closes tomorrow.

According to TEAMtalk, the Saudi Pro League side want to add Lascelles to their squad. However, that happening now looks unlikely, with Eddie Howe reluctant to lose his captain, who he would not be able to replace.

“Our squad is settled and I expect our squad to stay together because certainly we couldn’t afford to lose anybody,” the Magpies manager was quoted as saying by The Northern Echo when asked about the possibility of Lascelles moving to Saudi Arabia.

Eddie Howe’s stance is more than understandable

With the transfer window in England now closed, Howe would not be able to replace Lascelles with anyone.

It is, thus, only logical that the Newcastle manager wants to keep the £55,000-a-week (Salary Sport) centre-back, especially after Sven Botman’s injury.

Lascelles has been a fringe player under Howe, making just one appearance for the Magpies so far this season, but perhaps that could change if Botman is still unavailable after the international break.

If it does not, then maybe the former Nottingham Forest man will seek pastures news in 2024. For now, though, it looks like he will be staying at St James’ Park, which is what Howe seems to want at this moment in time.
