Newcastle ace Joelinton has spoken of his ambition to play for a big six club in the Premier League.
What’s the story?
Just two years after his £40m move from Hoffenheim to St James’ Park, it seems the Brazilian has lofty aspirations.
Speaking in an interview with UOL, the ‘immaculate’ South American was asked about whether he could reach a top-six club.
To which Joelinton claimed ‘it is a dream’ as he claimed Newcastle are a great club, but, below others.
The Geordies’ record signing has been far from prolific for the club since his move in 2019. He’s scored just 10 times in over 80 appearances across all competition.
When speaking about moving to a top-six club, Joelinton said: “It’s a dream. Newcastle are a great club, but they are below those others. I know that to get to this level I need to work harder and make a better season than what I’ve done here.”
“I want to play in the Champions League again, but that just depends on what I do at Newcastle. Things happen very fast in football. It is to keep working, confident, with positive thinking.”
Joelinton ambitions don’t match his ability
As harsh as it may sound, the ability shown by Joelinton at Newcastle doesn’t match his ambition.
His time in the northeast has been littered by inconsistencies, mostly in the number nine position.
And to play for a big club in England, or anywhere in the world, you need to potent in front of goal.
He has looked fairly comfortable on the wing, during what the latter half of his time with the Magpies. But, he’s neither pacey or tricky enough to prove a success for the bigger clubs.
As far as ambitions go, this is one that will remain a pipe dream for the six-foot one striker.
Meanwhile, Newcastle are unsure whether they should bid for a player.
