Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are determined to sign Liverpool target and Real Madrid star Marco Asensio in the summer transfer window, according to AS.
AS have reported that Newcastle and AC Milan are the two clubs who are most interested in signing Asensio, who can operate as a winger or as an attacking midfielder.
The Spain international is reportedly one of the ‘greatest wishes’ of Newcastle owners, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), for their ‘new mega-project’.
However, Asensio wants to stay at Madrid, according to AS.
Interestingly, Liverpool have also been linked with a move for the 26-year-old in the summer transfer window.

According to Sport (print edition, page 18, July 8, 2022), Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp personally wants Asensio at Anfield this summer.
Could Newcastle sign Marco Asensio ahead of Milan and Liverpool?
In our view, Newcastle United could struggle to sign Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio ahead of Liverpool and AC Milan.
Liverpool and Milan are European giants and global brands who regularly challenge for major trophies and play in the UEFA Champions League.
Newcastle are just starting their project, and a move to St. James’ Park may not appeal to Asensio – described by Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti as “a player with extraordinary quality” in AS in April 2022.
