Who are Newcastle signing this summer?

That’s the question all Magpies supporters will be asking themselves as the curtain prepares to shut on a brilliant season at St James’s Park.

Well, the second half of it was excellent and after beating Arsenal 2-0 on Monday night, excitement is already building with regards to who Saudi Public Investment Fund will bring in during the off-season.

Bruno Guimaraes enhanced his popularity among Newcastle fans with another goal in the victory this week, with the iconic Alan Shearer raving about him after the Gunners’ victory.

But the Tyneside outfit could be making a more significant signing than him this summer, if rumours are to be believed.

Bigger deal than Bruno?

Speculation is rife that Newcastle want to sign striker Hugo Ekitike, who rejected a January switch to the North-East.

However, this time around, United are said to be confident in bringing the 19-year-old French marksman to St James’s Park.

Ekitike isn’t a bigger name in football than Bruno Guimaraes but if Newcastle get it done, it might be more exciting.

That’s because United will have beaten Borussia Dortmund to his signature, with the Bundesliga outfit keen on signing him to replace Erling Haaland.

As brilliant as Bruno is, he didn’t choose Eddie Howe’s outfit over a bigger club.

Yes, Arsenal were linked but according to The Telegraph this week, they couldn’t afford him in January, meaning Newcastle was the best and only offer we know about.

Ekitike, on the other hand, is being pursued by a club famed for taking young players to the next level, like Haaland and Jude Bellingham to name but a few.

And if he overlooks Dortmund’s prestige in favour of signing up for Newcastle’s project then it signifies a wind of change on Tyneside.

It highlights the Magpies’ newfound ability to compete with massive clubs despite a lack of European football on offer.

Time will tell who are Newcastle signing this summer, but it’s massively significant if the teenage sensation is among their haul.
