Newcastle United are once again interested in signing Sporting midfielder Matheus Nunes having shown an interest last year.
O Jogo reported in January 2021 that Newcastle had offered to take Nunes on loan with an obligation to buy him for £10million.
The Newcastle trail went a little cold over the summer.
Instead, it looked like Everton would be signing Nunes. Record eventually reported that Nunes didn’t join Everton because they didn’t appoint Nuno Espirito Santo.
Nunes has remained at Sporting after his Everton move collapsed, recording two goals and one assist in 16 league games this season.
The Daily Mail now suggest that Nunes is one of Newcastle’s January targets as they desperately chase signings.
Eddie Howe needs reinforcements all over the pitch. Fortunately, he has the financial backing of PIF to get deals done.

A new midfielder should be on the radar, and Nunes will be viewed as an exciting option.
Hailed as ‘unbelievable’ and ‘too fast’ by former Estoril teammate Goncalo Santos, Nunes is a box-to-box midfielder with real potential.
Newcastle will likely have to offer more than they did a year ago, but finally being able to bring Nunes to Tyneside could be appealing after Everton missed out.
