Newcastle United are believed to be closing in on a deal to sign Manchester United’s Dean Henderson – but a move for Jesse Lingard is now unclear.
That’s according to The Daily Mail, who claim that Henderson has been ‘desperate’ to leave United even if it’s only on loan.
Henderson is now understood to have appealed to Ralf Rangnick about an exit, and the United boss has relented.
Henderson is now expected to secure a move to Newcastle, freeing up Freddie Woodman to leave on loan.
The 24-year-old goalkeeper excelled in two seasons on loan at Sheffield United but has struggled to nail down a starting role at Old Trafford.
Now desperate to play, Henderson will be a very busy man as Newcastle attempt to avoid relegation and stay in the Premier League.
Hailed as ‘exceptional’ by former Sheffield United teammate Sander Berge, Henderson just need to be playing first-team football.
Newcastle can give him that, but taking Henderson on loan means a deal for Jesse Lingard is now in the balance.
The Mail’s report claims that Henderson’s move kills off Lingard to Newcastle. Premier League clubs can’t register two loan signings from the same club.

However, 90Min now claim that Lingard has agreed terms with Newcastle and there is hope on all sides that a deal will be done before Monday’s transfer deadline.
Lingard is out of contract at the end of the season and wants to leave United in order to play regularly elsewhere.
It may well be that Newcastle now agree to take on the final six months of Lingard’s contract as a permanent signing.
That would effectively serve as a loan without being registered as one, allowing Newcastle to sign both Henderson and Lingard.
Only one can join on loan, and Newcastle may now have to get creative in an attempt to bring both to St James’ Park in the next 24 hours.
