Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur target Maxwel Cornet from Burnley in the summer transfer window, according to 90min.

Newcastle and Tottenham compete for Maxwell Cornet

The Mirror reported in May that Tottenham are interested in signing Cornet this summer.

Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte personally wants the 25-year-old at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and sees the versatile player ‘as an option’.

The report claimed that Cornet has a £15 million clause in his contract following Burnley’s relegation to the Championship at the end of last season.

However, it seems that Tottenham will have competition from Newcastle for Cornet.

90min have reported that Newcastle have enquired about the 25-year-old Ivory Coast international, who can operate as a left-back, left wing-back, left-winger or forward.

Impressive

In our view, Maxwell Cornet is a very good player whose versatility is impressive, and we think that he would be a good signing for Tottenham or Newcastle in the summer transfer window.

Cornet made 21 starts and five substitute appearances in the Premier League last season.

The Burnley star scored nine goals and gave one assist in those games.

Yes, Tottenham have already signed Ivan Persic this summer on a free transfer, but Cornet is much younger and is able to play in a number of positions.

That can only be a boon.
