Newcastle United have reportedly made Brazilian wonderkid Andrey Santos their main transfer target for the January window, with FC Barcelona also interested in signing the teenager.
According to the Northern Echo, the Magpies are keen to bring the South American prospect the northeast in January as Eddie Howe looks to bolster his midfield ranks in the winter market, with Santos regarded by many as one of the most exciting talents coming out of Brazil.
A regular for Vasco da Gama, Globo Esporte have recently reported that it will take as much as £35m for Santos to leave Brazil in January, with Sport also reporting that Barcelona hold an interest in the central midfielder. Though it appears that Newcastle are leading the race for the teenager.
Since the PIF takeover, Newcastle have made it a mission of sign promising youngsters to build for the future, with Australian wonderkid Garang Kuol set to join the Toon in January after the 2022 FIFA World Cup. And Santos is likely to be the next addition to this project.

With fellow Brazilians Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes key players under Howe alongside fellow South American Miguel Almiron, Santos could easily become the next sensation at St. James Park if the Toon can get a deal over the line for the 18-year-old.
Indeed, £35m on a teenager is a hefty risk to take even for a club with as much wealth as Newcastle. However, based on the Magpies’ moves under Howe, there’s more reason for fans to be excited that worried over how Santos will settle in the English northeast.
Newcastle signing Santos would be an exciting move

Newcastle have done well since the PIF takeover to not go too crazy with their limitless wealth, with Howe and the transfer board making smart signings that have taken the squad to a new level without looking to steal headlines with superstar moves. Which is why Santos is such an exciting deal.
The Brazilian has the potential to star for Newcastle for well over a decade. And with Howe already getting some sensational results out of the current crop of South Americans in the squad, adding a wonderkid in Santos will make supporters very excited for the future of the club.
