Rob Lee has warned Newcastle fans to puts things ‘into perspective’ after suggestions were flying around about signing the likes of Lionel Messi or Neymar, as he told Sky Sports News (07/10/21 at 2:40 pm).
The former Newcastle favourite made it clear that the club needs sorting out from ‘top to bottom’ and ‘the right people’ need to be in ‘the right jobs’.
On Thursday evening, Mike Ashley’s tenure of Newcastle came to an end when a Saudi-based group took charge of the club.
During these last 24 hours, and seemingly from out of nowhere, the proposed Saudi takeover has gone from being up in the air to now being completed in next to no time.
And whilst the Toon Army faithful are on cloud nine, this is now the long, long road back to the top.
But it’s something that’s going to need patience, as Newcastle-mad Lee wants individuals at the club who also ‘understand’ the passionate city.
“Let’s make no mistake about it, the gap is huge (between Newcastle and those at the top),” said Lee. “It’s getting bigger.
“I have heard things about signing Neymar and Messi, let’s get this into perspective. We want to get a football club that the owners understand and its people.
“The football club has been declined for a long, long time. It needs addressing right from the very bottom to the top. The right people, in the right jobs.
“Bringing the right players in. People have to understand that players need to understand where Newcastle is. Sometimes players don’t really understand it. Where it is geographically.
“I understand it now. I probably didn’t in 1992 because I thought Middlesbrough were closer.”

Only Norwich, who have picked up only one point this season, are a worse side than Newcastle this season.
But, at this moment in time, it won’t bother their fans because they are on celebrating a night to remember.
Of course, their survival is now paramount because that would be a nightmare scenario under this new ownership.
Although, the question has to be asked, when the ink is dry, the time will also tick for Mr Unpopular in the North East because it’s going to be hard to see Steve Bruce survive this.
