Newcastle United want Ludovic Ajorque but face a battle with Everton, Nottingham Forest and West Ham United among other Premier League teams.
The Magpies have been chasing a new striker but, as you would expect, finding one at a decent price has been hard work.
The likes of Alexander Isak and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have been too expensive whilst Hugo Ekitike picked a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Armando Broja, Benjamin Sesko and Sekou Mara have been mentioned too, but a new name is in the frame in Ajorque.
Newcastle United want Ludovic Ajorque
Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solekhol reports that Ajorque is a man in demand and could be a key name in the final weeks of the transfer window.
It’s claimed that Newcastle scouted Ajorque in action for Strasbourg against Liverpool on Sunday.
The problem is that Newcastle were joined by Bournemouth, Everton, Fulham, Leicester City, Nottingham Forest, West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
That’s two fifths of the Premier League chasing Ajorque and you can imagine more may even fancy the giant striker.
Ajorque stands at a huge 6ft 6in tall and has hit double figures for goals in each of the last four seasons with Strasbourg across all competitions.
Hailed as a ‘complete’ striker by Strasbourg boss Julien Stephan, Ajorque has been a nightmare for defenders.
Ajorque picked up an assist in that game against Liverpool, teeing up Habib Dialllo in a 3-0 thumping.
Solekhol adds that Ajorque is available for around £18million this summer, meaning he would be a lot cheaper than some of Newcastle’s other targets.
Whether Newcastle need another tall striker is up for debate after signing Chris Wood, and the same goes for West Ham after landing Gianluca Scamacca.
Still, with so many Premier League clubs now keen, Ajorque could land himself a huge move this month; not bad for a player who started his career on the island of Reunion.
