Rolando Aarons will likely feature on the bench for Hellas Verona for the Derby della Scala against Chievo Verona this weekend.

Rolando Aarons has featured in three matches since his January switch from Newcastle to Hellas Verona, featuring on the losing end on every occasion.

The Jamaican-born winger has failed to make an impact in 156 minutes of Serie A action, with his side failing to register a goal in that period.

Aarons was left out of their latest contest, with the Yellow and Blues winning 2-1 against Torino in his absence.

Newcastle fans may be surprised by the news considering how highly rated Aarons is amongst the Magpies faithful.

Before being blighted by injuries a few years back, Aarons had excited the Toon Army with glimpses of blistering pace and incisive attacking play.

January’s arrival of 22-year-old trickster Kenedy left Aarons on the fringes on Tyneside, but the former England U20 international was keen to get game time elsewhere.

Aarons rejected a potential loan move to Championship club Hull City in favour of the Verona switch, the Hull Daily Mail reported, influenced by his desire to link-up with Fabio Pecchia.

Pecchia was previously employed by Newcastle as Rafa Benitez’s assistant manager back in 2016 before taking over as Verona head coach later in the year.

While the ambitious switch was praised at the time, Aarons may now be regretting the move with Daniele Verde, Romulo and Alessio Cerci likely to remain ahead of him in the pecking order.

Although Hull are also embroiled in a relegation battle, the Tigers are playing attacking football and scoring goals consistently.

Hull’s top scorer from their last Championship campaign Abel Hernandez has recently returned from injury and Aarons could have caught the eye of the Newcastle hierarchy as a part of a strong attacking unit.
