The Ivorian midfielder has been linked with a move to Inter Milan recently.

Newcastle United let plenty of players leave the club on Transfer Deadline day, the majority of them going to Rangers as part of Mike Ashley’s Scottish football branch out. But they also saw Davide Santon leave the club. The versatile full-back returned to former club Inter Milan on loan until the end of the season.

It was a controversial switch, with his final few months at Newcastle unhappy ones and his girlfriend Tweeting her disapproval of Newcastle’s treatment of the Italian international.

Santon was a regular at Newcastle but suffered with injury problems in the latter stages of his Toon career. He had not started for the club in the Premier League this season and had played just once all season, in the FA Cup defeat to Leicester City.

Now he is set to join Inter Milan permanently in the summer, and hopes a Manchester City man will be joining him.

Santon told Goal.com that he hopes Yaya Toure will arrive at the club this summer:

“The coach and the club know what they’re doing in terms of transfers, we’ll see.

“I’ve played against Yaya Toure and when Manchester City won the title he scored a double at St James’ Park.

“He impressed me and he’s still a great player with pace and ability that can win games.”

Toure’s form at City has been called into question recently and his future is also in doubt. Former City manager Roberto Mancini is close to Toure and is currently in charge at Inter, which certainly helps their cause in the hunt for the player.

Inter however will not be able to offer Champions League football next term as they are currently 10th in Serie A.

So it will remain to be seen whether Toure joins Santon at Inter next season.
