A recent report had suggested that Christian Atsu had wanted to make his move to Newcastle United a permanent one.
Christian Atsu is still waiting to hear from Newcastle regarding a permanent deal
Christian Atsu has suggested that he is yet to hear from Newcastle regarding whether they want to keep him at St James’ Park next season following his loan, the Shields Gazette reports.
Atsu was part of Rafa Benitez’s squad that went on to win the Championship title this term and secure promotion back to the Premier League.
The Daily Mail recently suggested that the Ghana international was keen to make a £6.5 million move from Chelsea, but he has now confirmed that he is still waiting to hear whether the Magpies are keen to bring him back.
“No conversations – I’ve not heard from Newcastle,” he said, as reported by the Shields Gazette.
Atsu scored five times in the league
“What I will say, though, is that I owe them thanks.
“They have given me an opportunity – it’s a big club. “Whatever happens in the future, I thank the fans, Rafa and everyone at the club.”
Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is set to be given a bumper transfer budget
Considering that Atsu made more appearances from the bench than as a starter in the second tier this term – just 15 of his 32 appearances saw him make the starting lineup – his contribution is arguably good enough for his loan spell to be deemed a success with five goals and three assists coming this year.
And with the Chronicle recently suggesting that Benitez could have as much as £100 million to spend this summer, it would surely represent little risk bringing the 25-year-old in on a permanent basis if his parent club are looking for the seven-figure fee before they sanction a permanent move.
