Cal Roberts has been reportedly loan listed along with three other promising Newcastle United prospects this summer, and Sunderland should consider raiding their north east rivals.
The Evening Chronicle claim 21-year-old winger Roberts will be allowed to leave on loan this summer, along with goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, defender Victor Fernandez and midfielder Dan Barlaser.
Roberts starred for Newcastle throughout pre-season, appearing even against Portuguese side Braga but has failed to do enough to show Rafa Benitez that he deserves to be in the first-team squad.
The England youth international has managed only one Newcastle appearance, coming on against Leicester in the FA Cup way back in March 2015. He has failed to break into the side since then.
Sunderland need options out wide, with central midfielder Lynden Gooch playing on the flank last time out. Indeed, Duncan Watmore remains sidelined through a long-term injury, while Aiden McGeady is nowhere to be seen.
The Black Cats only signed one winger, in the form of Chris Maguire on loan from League Two side Bury. It leaves manager Jack Ross with a desperate need for reinforcements out wide.

With Roberts allowed to leave on loan, Ross would be foolish not to consider the exciting young star and must put rivalry aside to land a player that impressed in Scotland last season.
Ross joined Sunderland from St. Mirren this summer and will be fully aware that Roberts did well during his loan with Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock in his 11 outings. Ross must consider a move to land the winger.
