Newcastle United will target Marseille midfielder Zambo Anguissa this summer according to reports from France.

Newcastle look a good bet to retain their Premier League status under Rafa Benitez even if there is still some work to do in an increasingly congested Premier League.

Magpies fans have endured another rollercoaster season with the on-off takeover saga proving a major disappointment for supporters.

Fans are united in wanting owner Mike Ashley out of the club, particularly after he failed to invest in the squad in January despite the looming threat of relegation and potential to lose the best manager the club has had in many a year.

It seems one of Ashley’s administration’s favoured sources of player recruitment will continue to be plundered for potential bargains this summer, though, if reports from La Provence are anything to go by.

The French outlet claims that Benitez wants to bring in powerhouse central midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa from Marseille.

The Cameroon international was the subject of interest from West Bromwich Albion last summer but Marseille rejected a bid of £13 million as they hold out for closer to £18m.

That has sparked a flurry of interest in the defensive midfielder from Premier League clubs including Newcastle, says La Provence.

West Brom remain interested, having seen a €15m bid knocked back in summer for the player, according to the report, as well as Watford, West Ham and Newcastle United.
